Extractions

Home/Services/Extractions

While we do everything we can to preserve the integrity of your natural smile, it's sometimes necessary to extract a tooth to protect your oral health and overall well-being.

Common reasons include: over-retained baby teeth, permanent teeth with extensive decay deemed non-restorable, severely fractured teeth, advanced gum disease compromising supporting tissues, poorly positioned or impacted wisdom teeth, and overcrowded teeth as part of an orthodontic treatment plan.

Extractions are typically categorized as either 'simple' or 'surgical.' Simple extractions are performed when the tooth is clearly visible in the mouth and the root anatomy is not unusual. Surgical extraction is for teeth that are severely broken down, ankylosed, or impacted.

Post-op care includes maintaining gauze pressure, protecting yourself until anesthesia wears off, taking medications as prescribed, applying ice, avoiding smoking, watching what you eat and drink, and gentle oral hygiene.
